Year in Review

May 30, 2008

This year the Godley High School WildCat Band earned "straight ones" at the Region 7 Concert and Sightreading Contest.  "Straight Ones" is the highest score possible at a Concert and Sightreading Contest.  The term represents a first division (superior) rating from all three judges for the concert portion and all three judges from the sightreading portion.Band2

The Middle School Bands also attended their Concert and Sightreading Contest recently.  The Gold Band (Varsity) received Straight Ones on Stage and a 2 in sightreading.  The Purple Band (Non-Varsity) received a 2 on stage and a 3 in sightreading. 

Congratulations to all of these students!

In addition to these successes, the GHS WildCat Band has earned many accomplishments this year.  In October, the Marching band earned a rating of Excellent, receiving scores of 2-1-2 at the Region 7 Marching Festival.  Twelve members of the Band made the All-District Honor Band, and six students made the Region 7 All-Region Band. One student, Stephen Jusko, made the All-State Symphonic Band (the top band) on tuba, and also earned first chair in the All-Region Symphonic Band. 

Further, the Middle School Band had six 7th and 8th graders make the All-District Middle School band.

Congratulations to these students.

 

 

Successful Spring Concert!

May 22 , 2008

The Godley WildCat Bands put on their spring concert to a standing room only crowd. The concert featured the 6th Grade Band, Middle School Purple Band, Middle School Gold Band, and High School Band. Selections included Grand Serenade for Winds and an Awful Lot of Percussion (High School), Vortex (Gold Band), Fires of Mazama (Purple Band), and Power Rock (6th Grade) among others.

Stephen Jusko, a junior who made the ATSSB All-State Symphonic Band on tuba, composed an outstanding piece entitled, Risen - The Soul Takes Flight. Steve-O directed the piece he composed with some guidance from David Holsinger, who he met during his time at All-State. He Hopes to get the piece published and submit it to the 2010 ATSSB Composition Contest.

 

Middle School Band Attends Concert and Sightreading Contest

April 1, 2008

 

Both of the 7th and 8th grade bands attended the UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest at Glen Rose High School on Tuesday, April 1.

The Gold Band (Varsity), directed by Ms. Carly Simpson, received a 1-1-1 rating for an overall Superior Rating on stage and a 2-2-1 rating for an overall Excellent Rating in the sightreading room. Selections performed on stage were Summit March by Clark, Shenandoah by Smith and Story, and Crusade by Gassi.

The Purple Band (Non-Varsity), directed by Mr. Taylor Cathey, received a 2-2-3 on stage for an overall Excellent Rating on stage and a 3-3-2 for an overall Good rating.  Selections performed on stage were Fallbrook March by O'Reilly, Sakura by Story, and Atlantis by McGinty.

 

WildCat Drumline

Recently, auditions were held for the 2008 GHS WildCat Drumline.  For the fall, we will welcome back every member to the line and add a few more.  This fall, we will have 5 snares, 3 tenors, 5 basses, and 5 pit members.  The Drumline would also like to thank Dynasty Percussion for all of their support.

 

Godley High School Band Earns Straight Ones on Stage and Sightreading

Recently the Godley High School WildCat Band earned "straight ones" at the Region 7 Concert and Sightreading Contest.  "Straight Ones" is the highest score possible at a Concert and Sightreading Contest.  The term represents a first division (superior) rating from all three judges for the concert portion and all three judges from the sightreading portion.

Mr. Jeff Henry directed the WildCat Band.  Their selections were Newcastle March by Vinson, Knights of Dunvegan by Meyer, and Moscow, 1941 by Balmages.

 

Region, District, and ATSSB State Honor Band

 

Twelve members of the Band made the All-District Honor Band, and six students made the Region 7 All-Region Band. One student, Stephen Jusko, made the All-State Symphonic Band (the top band) on tuba, and also earned first chair in the All-Region Symphonic Band. 

Further, the Middle School Band had six 7th and 8th graders make the All-District Middle School band.
