GHS Family Career and Community Leaders of America will deliver Thanksgiving dinner to the homes of Godley senior citizens on Saturday, November 21. Mrs. Winn's Nutrition and Food Science classes are preparing turkey, dressing, vegetables and pumpkin pies for the dinners this week. See photos here.

Members of the Godley High School Chapter of Family Career and Community Leaders of America proudly hold the check sent to the Komen Race for the Cure for Breast Cancer. As a result of T-shirt sales and other fundraising efforts of FCCLA supported by the Godley community, $1321.00 was donated.

Over one hundred high school students in Mr. Long and Mrs. Boysen’s biology classes participated in a virtual fieldtrip of a knee replacement surgery on October 28th. The surgery was broadcast from Mount Caramel East Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. It was a live surgery and the students were able to ask the surgeon questions throughout the procedure. Before the virtual fieldtrip, biology students participated in a lab where they reconstructed a knee from a kit sent by the hospital. More photos here.

The National Honor Society would like to thank everyone who participated in the Lasagna Supper Tuesday night. We are especially thankful for the donations of food and time from so many people. The National Honor Society is raising money to purchase trees to plant around the high school, adding beauty and shade. See photos here.

Two fifth grade students faired well in the Johnson County Soil and Water Conservation Poster Contest. These students competed against students from every school in Johnson County. Hunter Cofer placed 2nd overall in the 5th grade division and Sara Richardson placed 3rd overall. We are extremely proud of their accomplishments.

Tara and Kasey, pictured with Coach Debbie McFarlin, played girls doubles at Tarleton State University competing in the Texas State Regional Tennis tournament and got 2nd place. They will compete at the State UIL Tennis Tournament in Austin on May 11 & 12.

On Saturday, April 18, 2009, the March of Dimes hosted its annual March for Babies campaign. Godley High School PALS program helped volunteer at the Children's Craft tent, the Bounce house and helped pass out stickers to those participants as they finished their march. Students take part in "Live From the Heart" as surgical teams perform an open heart surgery. This event was viewed through video conferencing via the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, Illinois. See the more pictures here.

Congratulations to Brittany Bowie and Crystal Espinoza! Brittany won 2nd place in Applied Technology and Crystal won 5th place in Senior Job Interview. They will both advance to State STAR Event competition in Corpus Christi in April. Eight members of Godley High FCCLA attended the Regional Meeting and STAR competition in San Angelo. See additional pictures here. Technology comes to the rescue! While in San Angelo for FCCLA STAR competition, part of Brittany Bowie's presentation would not play on the laptop. Thanks to Jane Cook,Technology Teacher, and Marty Oliver, Network Administrator, who found a way to get it to us by way of the website, Brittany was able to download and replace her video in time for competition. From Godley to San Angelo--way to go Technology, and thanks!
The Lady Cats placed 2nd in the 4th Annual Perrin-Witt Classic. The Lady Cats had a record of 5 and 1 in the tournament. All Tournament selections were Pitcher Megan Campbell and Catcher Jordan Polster. The lady Cats have a record of 12 wins and 1 loss on the season.
Congratulations to Jessica Sumner who competed this past weekend in NFL District for debate. This is the circuit where our students can compete, and if they progress, they go on to compete on a national level. Jessica took the first national qualifying spot for Lincoln Douglas Debate. She was the only student to go undefeated against approximately 80 other area competitors. She will be competing June in Birmingham, Alabama against students from across the country for a chance at national recognition and a large scholarship! Wish her much luck!!

On February 5th Godley FFA students traveled to San Antonio for the San Antonio Livestock Show to exhibit their dairy heifers. See photos and read more here.
Congratulations to James Scott, Steton Gilley, Brittany Shirley, and Tyler Hes. They competed in UIL Cross-Examination District and won! Scott and Gilley (pictured) took first place in district, and Shirley and Hes took second in district. This was a state qualifying meet, and so they will all be competing in UIL state competition over Spring Break in Austin.

On Saturday, January 31, the Godley High school debate team, both middle school and high school, hosted the First Annual Godley Debate Tournament. It was a huge success. All events ran on time and proved to be a wonderfully competitive event between the schools that attended! The team is looking forward to Godley hosting a debate tournament every year! A big thank you to all the schools, students, and parents that participated!

Godley FFA is having an Auction and Lunch following the Godley Junior Livestock Show. All proceeds will go to Godley FFA members.

On February 4, 2009, Kindergarten classes celebrated the 100th day of school!!!!
Four students from Godley Middle School were lucky enough to be able to attend the Presidential Inauguration in Washington D.C. These students are Nikki Turner, Christian Oliveira, Haley Briggs, and Austin Steeleman.
On Sunday January 25th, Aaron Barber and Jessica Sumner represented Godley High School at the Abraham Lincoln birthday celebration at the Layland Museum in Cleburne, Texas. They performed an exhibition debate and Jessica Sumner explained the history and development of Lincoln Douglas style debate. It was a full house of museum patrons, and they were very impressed with the skill level of our students.

January 23-24, the Godley High School Debate team competed at the Lindale High School Tournament. Jessica Sumner took 2nd place out of 47 schools in the Lincoln Douglas debate event. She also was awarded Top Speaker! The rest of the team also performed at their very best winning many rounds! See more here.
Stephen, a senior, recently earned a seat in the ATSSB All-State Band for the second year in a row. Steve-O was also selected to march this summer with the 7-time World Champion Drum and Bugle Corp, the Cavaliers. Click here for more information.

On Saturday, November 15, the Godley High School Chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) delivered 24 meals to senior citizens and shut-ins in Godley and the Surrounding area. Click here to read more and see photos.
On Friday, December 5th, George Washington portrayed by Mark Collins spoke at Godley Middle School. He shared with the students the history of George Washington's life. Collins was a very talented and entertaining George Washington. Collins has recently played George Washington in Disney's National Treasure 2. The History Channel had also cast him as the first president in the miniseries entitled The Revolution.
Godley High School held College Day for High School Seniors on November 20. Seniors were allowed to browse and gather information from the many colleges that attended. See more photos here.

Start and ending times have changed for each campus this year. These times will affect pick up and drop off times for bus riders. Also be aware that bus routes have changed and your student may not ride the same bus they did last year. The bell schedule can be found here.

The 2008 High School Awards Ceremony was held last friday. Congratulations to all those recognized. A detailed list can be found here.

The bond election was a success and all campuses will be benefiting from the proposed plan. Construction will begin this summer.
The elementary will gain a new activity room, twelve new classrooms, new restrooms, and additional storage areas.
The intermediate school will have a new wing built to match the existing campus. It will contain a new activity center, cafeteria, kitchen, and second story classrooms. The existing cafeteria will be converted into a new library; and the existing library made into classrooms. The existing building will be renovated; and the gym updated with telescopic seating, acoustic enhancements, natural lighting and AC systems. Bus pick up and drop off will be rerouted to a covered landing and a new visitor / staff parking lot built in front of the building.
The middle school will have all main corridors renovated, a new roof added, and the gym updated with telescopic seating. The parking lot will be redone and bus drop off and pick up relocated behind the school. New dressing rooms and coaches offices will be built.
The high school will have a fine arts wing added to the main campus. New practice rooms, dressing rooms, a larger band hall and multiple storage areas are included within the wing. The Ag building will also have several additions, including a new CAD lab and greenhouse.

13 months ago Cortney and James set a goal of making it to the state meet and coming home with a medal. On May 5th when they won their match against Edgewood High School they did just that. They finished the state meet in 3rd place and brought home a bronze medal to make Godley history. This was the 2nd trip for each of them; but the first time teamed up together. Great job Cortney & James.

Godley ISD was featured in the Cleburne-Times Review for bringing hi-tech instruction into the classrooms in an article titled “Changing the landscape”. The article focused on many new enhancements being brought into our classrooms and the changes in teaching methodologies our instructors have come to embody. The full article can be viewed here.
