Coach Weese and Bailey Kinkead placed 2nd and Coach Turner and Tara Goodloe are the Champions of the 8th Annual Teacher/Player Tennis Tournament. Congratulations!

Godley Intermediate recently conducted a community service project. They collected coins for cancer for the Relay for Life of Johnson County. They raised $1706.00 during the week long coin drive. Mr. Mueck's 4th grade class raised $400.00 and won a pizza party for raising the most money. Ice cream for the party was provided by David's Supermarket. Thanks to all who participated in the coin drive. The students did an awesome job.

Clayton Edgmon is elected Vice- President at Lake Whitney Convention on May 4, 2010. He will serve the Lake Whitney District for year 2010-2011. The District is made of 27 schools in the region. Congratulation Clayton for a great job!

Jeremy Fox announces his run for State FFA Officer. If he is elected this Friday at the Area VIII convention he will become the first state officer from Godley since Bruce Gibson in 1973. Mr. Gibson is the only state officer ever elected from Godley. Good luck Jeremy!

The Godley Middle School Life Skills Class would like to thank everyone in the district that supported the class fundraiser with their purchase of Cookies in a Jar. Your support through these fundraisers helps with the cost of their community outings during the year!

The Wildcat boys track team qualified two relay teams for the state track meet. The 4 X 100 team of Landry Martinez, Victor Cerna, Vradley Cerna, Riley Good and Colton Mitchell as an alternate, qualified with a 2nd place finish in a time of 43.0. The 4 X 400 meter relay of Vradley Cerna, Austin Martinez, Fernando Canchola, Ty Young and Logan Winnett, qualified with a 2nd place finish in a time of 3:25.08. The team will be competing at 12:00 p.m. May 15 at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.

Godley Elementary recently hosted an 8 week Latino Family Literacy Project. Families of our English Language Learners were invited to come and participate in a program designed to enhance literacy and language skills of Latino children. The program included bilingual children's books that reflected the lives and issues of Latino families. The group met once a week for 8 weeks during which they reflected on the children's books through reading, dialogue, writing, and art projects. Instructors for the program were Cindy Travioli, ESL Director, and Hortencia Garcia, ESL Aide and translator. Babysitting was provided by the High School PALS program and Polly Lindsey. The program concluded with a fiesta. A new session is planned for this fall.

Efrain Rios competed in the Regional UIL meet in Lincoln-Douglas Debate at Tarleton State University this past Saturday. He placed third overall and will be competing at the State UIL meet on May 7th at The University of Texas in Austin.

Five members of the Godley Lady Cats Basketball Team have been selected to the All County Team. Way to go girls! Left to Right: Anna Perez – 2nd Team, Maelan Brown – Newcomer, Tolli Wylie – 6th Man, Ashley Allen – 1st Team, Brittney Neill – 2nd Team.

The Regional Qualifiers for Tennis are Tara Goodloe, Kasey Fairbrother, Jordyn Sanders, Kayla Whittlesey, Kayla Zetnick, Kyle Steed. The Regional Meet will be held April 19-22 at Tarleton State University.

Eight Godley High School students received the “Texas Student Achievement Award” from the Texas ACT Council for their performance on the PLAN (Pre-ACT) Assessment. These students are on target to meet or exceed ACT’s College Readiness Benchmarks by graduation. ACT’s College Readiness Benchmarks are empirically-based and identify the level of achievement necessary in English, mathematics, reading and science to have a successful college freshmen experience. The students receiving this recognition from the Texas ACT Council are Andrew Hultin, Vradely Cerna, Lathan Hill, Lyndsey Carpenter, Bryan Leonard, Dakota Duty, Tollie Wylie and Erica Brisson.

Godley Dairy Judging Team won 1st in District and 2nd in the area contest. Team members are Lacey Massy, Eddie Wilson, Dustin Kirkpatrick, and Hoston Hanna. Lacey was second high individual and Eddie was third high individual in the contest.
Other teams that went with the Godley FFA and participated in the area contest were the Ag. Mechanics team consisting of Travis Talkington, Josh Allen and Kyle Edgmon. The horse judging team consisted of Ryan Hays, Kelsey Harwell, Trent Brown, and Casey Bell. The poultry team members were Kenny Smith, Katelyn Bagwell, and Jessica Hart. The livestock Judging team members were Jeremy Fox, Savannah Trantham, Clay Edgeman, and Logan May. A new team added this year was the Wildlife team and members were Rande Watson, David Upchurch, Cody McDonald, and Garrett Polster.

Godley High School gives a sendoff for Chelci Ramirez and Chasity Vasquez as they head to State Competition in FCCLA in the Technology Star Event. Good Luck girls!

These Godley students have each qualified to compete in the 83rd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays that will take place Friday-Saturday, April 2-3, at Michael A. Myers Stadium in Austin. Texas Relays are meant to showcase the state's finest athletes.

GHS Student Council would like to thank the Faculty and Students for their contributions to this year’s Pennies for Patients drive. We beat our goal of $2010 and set an all time school record by raising $2068.19!! Mrs. Brawner’s class won the pizza party for their donation of $350, and Mrs. Green and Coach Jones tied for the ice cream parties with their donation of $261 each! Thanks again to all those who participated in this very worthwhile cause!!

During the February 22, 2010 school board meeting, Godley I.S.D. Board of Trustees recognized bus drivers Carolyn Brigance and Maria Sellens for their quick actions in dealing with a recent emergency situation. Members of the Godley High School FCCLA competed in the Region II STAR Events in Granbury. Kirsten Dickey and Chasity Vasquez, pictured, advanced to State competition in Dallas, by placing 4th in Applied Technology, Senior Division.

2nd Grade did a social studies unit on goods, services, buying, and selling. The unit culminated with an economic fair that had students buying and selling their own goods and services. Students had to advertise and "sell" their product. They all earned "income" for work in the classroom and good citizenship. We had a great turn-out and a lot of parents came to help. Godley Intermediate School Library has received a grant for new non-fiction books from Wal-Mart Distribution Center.

Steton Gilley and Steven Morgan swept the district CX meet in Grandview last Wednesday with a 4 – 0 record. They will be advancing to the STATE meet in Austin on March 15 – 16th. This is Steton’s second year in a row to compete at the state level and a first for Steven, who was in LD debate until 3 weeks before the district meet.

GHS Family Career and Community Leaders of America will deliver Thanksgiving dinner to the homes of Godley senior citizens on Saturday, November 21. Mrs. Winn's Nutrition and Food Science classes are preparing turkey, dressing, vegetables and pumpkin pies for the dinners this week. See photos here.

Members of the Godley High School Chapter of Family Career and Community Leaders of America proudly hold the check sent to the Komen Race for the Cure for Breast Cancer. As a result of T-shirt sales and other fundraising efforts of FCCLA supported by the Godley community, $1321.00 was donated.

Over one hundred high school students in Mr. Long and Mrs. Boysen’s biology classes participated in a virtual fieldtrip of a knee replacement surgery on October 28th. The surgery was broadcast from Mount Caramel East Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. It was a live surgery and the students were able to ask the surgeon questions throughout the procedure. Before the virtual fieldtrip, biology students participated in a lab where they reconstructed a knee from a kit sent by the hospital. More photos here.

The National Honor Society would like to thank everyone who participated in the Lasagna Supper Tuesday night. We are especially thankful for the donations of food and time from so many people. The National Honor Society is raising money to purchase trees to plant around the high school, adding beauty and shade. See photos here.
