Orchestra

The kindergarten, first and second grade classes will listen to the story "Orchestranimals."  It is a book narrated on an audio tape.  The narrator does some really funny voices.   It is the story of an orchestra made up of animals.  The animals are all coming into the performance hall ten minutes before the show.  This is making the penguin conductor very nervous.  He listens to each animals excuse and then there is a short "song" from each instrument.  I love this story because it is funny and the instrument songs are very good recordings.  Ask your son or daughter "Where is Crash?" and you might get a funny, but long answer!

The orchestra is made up of four sections Strings, Woodwinds, Brass and Percussion.

We will listen to the following instruments in class:

Woodwind: Piccolo, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Saxophone and English Horn

Brass: Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone and Tuba.

Strings: Violin, Viola, Cello, String Bass, Guitar, Banjo and Harp

Percussion:  We will listen to a great number of percussion instruments.  The ones we will listen and look at will be: Snare drum, Bass drum, Timpani, Piano, Xylophone, Triangle, Tambourine, Cymbals, Castanets and Woodblock.

When we have listened to them all, the students should be able to show how to play the instrument and point it out on a picture.
