Musical Terms
Some musical terms we will be learning and talking about are: Staff, Measures, Bar lines, Treble Clef, Bass Clef, Time Signature, and Key Signature. These are the basic terms used by musicians to describe written music. These things tell musicians how to perform the music.
Staff: the 5 lines music is written on. Notes can be written on or between the lines.
Measures: segments of music divided by bar lines.
Bar Lines: vertical lines dividing measures on the staff.
Treble clef: backwards, fancy S that shows the musician to use the higher notes.
Bass Clef: backwards C with two dotes that shows the musician to use the lower notes.
Time Signature: the top number tells how many beats, bottom number tells what note will get the beat.
Key Signature: tells the musician which notes to play
