6000 Years of History in 36 Weeks
Text:
Prentice Hall, World History: Connections to Today
Description:
This is a survey course on World History covering Prehistory to the World Today. This means we talk about a lot of History as you can tell from the title of this page. We will start with Ancient people and end up by May at the Cold War (and it wasn’t called the Cold War because it was freezing or because there were actual battles, more on this in May)
Ok, so why do you have to take this class? Because the state says you have to take this class! But more importantly so you can be a good citizen of the United States and also the world. By studying history, you can learn about the really stupid things people did long ago and not do them yourself. This makes you a really smart person for learning from others mistakes. I know all of you are smart, but this makes you even smarter than you thought. :-) For example trying to take over the world generally doesn’t work. Napoleon and Hitler could both tell you (if they were alive) that invading Russia in the Winter time is pretty dumb because it is pretty cold there. (more on this later).
History is cool. Did you know that basketball has been around for almost 2000 years? The Mayans used to play it. Or that the Egyptians used to pull people’s brains out through their noses when they were mummifying them? Yuck! How about the fact that the French really liked to chop off people’s heads with a machine called the Guillotine? The English weren’t much better because this one English king named Henry VIII had two of his wives heads chopped off because he was fed up with them.
So we are going to learn all about everything I just talked about and then some this year.
