Procedures
Procedures for class are designed to answer questions you have about how to do things in our classroom to maintain an efficient and fun working environment for us both. We will practice these the first wweek of school. Procedures are subject to change.
How to enter the classroom
When you arrive at my door, please enter QUIETLY – do not hang around outside.
- Please get to your seat and get your supplies ready for the class.
- Open your binder, look for the warm-up, and begin working immediately. Thanks!
How to leave the classroom
When the bell rings, that is a signal to the teacher to wrap things up. The bell is not a dismissal for students.
Please do not begin packing materials away until you are told to do so.
- Please remain in your own seat until dismissed by me.
- Please follow the FREEZE, TURN, and LISTEN rule below.
- I will not dismiss class unless all students are in their seat.
Getting Sr. Gross’ attention
If you need my attention, have a question, or need help, the procedure is:
Wait until I am done speaking or demonstrating the lesson so that I notice you need me.
- PLEASE KEEP WORKING and raise your hand silently.
What to do when I need your attention or it is too loud in the room
If the class gets too loud, an activity is over, or I have something I need to say, I will raise my hand and begin counting to 5 in Spanish. As I count Uno, Dos, Tres, please do the following:
FREEZE – stop what you’re doing immediately.
- TURN – and face me; pay attention and keep your eyes on me.
- LISTEN and be ready for instruction. I will have something important to say.
Where to look for your warm-up assignments
On one of the blackboards I will have a Warm-up assignment labeled WARMUP and the agenda for the day. Please copy the information and get to work immediately.
Exchanging and Grading papers
Occasionally we will grade each other’s quizzes or class work.
- Please be respectful of other’s work by not calling out grades – good OR bad.
- Write your name in the lower right corner of the paper.
- Follow grading directions from Mr. Gross.
- Please pay close attention to your grading so you don’t cost anyone a passing grade.
When you have finished all your work
Please do not talk or disrupt others

How to label papers
In upper right hand corner, please write your name and class period.

How support groups work
I will usually choose work groups. Sometimes you may choose who to work with.
- Each member of the group must contribute in order to receive a grade. The grade received will be the same for all group members.
- Please use a quiet voice – low enough so that others are not disturbed.
- Time limits are enforced. You may not continue to work once time is up.
How to take notes
I will be teaching you how to take notes using the Cornell note system
- I will take grades on your notes
- Take notes on class lecture, anything written on the board, on films, class discussions, culture lessons, and any questions you may have.

- Please pay attention to other’s skits – they are learning opportunities.
What to do when you disagree or are angry with another student or the teacher
- “Belly breathe” and try to calm down
- Attempt to resolve issue nonviolently and without insults.
- However, if you choose to leave the classroom without permission and accept the consequences, please do so quietly. Do not yell or slam doors.
Moving to and from the computer lab, school assembly, or other function
- Please line up single file.
- Keep up and stay together while walking.
- Assemblies are privileges. Please act accordingly so privilege is not revoked.
