Dear Student and Parent,

              Welcome to Junior English! I hope you are as excited as I am as we begin the new school year. And what a year it will be! Read below to discover class information and procedures.

American Literature Syllabus

 Semester one

  Short stories, essays, short answers

  Puritan writings and The Crucible

  Romanticism and The Last of the Mohicans

  Research paper

  Semester two

  Realism and short stories

  A Raisin in the Sun

  American poetry

  Of Mice and Men

Supplies

1. College-ruled paper

2. Blue or black ink pens and pencils

3. You will be responsible for all class notes, handouts, etc. A three-ring  

     binder or folder of some sort will help you stay organized.

Grades and Grading Procedures

* 40% of grade: minor grades (daily assignments, prewriting, rough drafts, etc.)

* 60% of grade: major grades (essay tests, essays, projects, etc.)

Makeup Work

- Students have 2 days per day missed to make up daily assignments.

- Major grades must be made up within 5 days of the student’s return to school.

- Projects assigned 2-3 weeks in advance are due on the original date; late projects will receive a 25 point deduction.

It is the student’s responsibility to ask for missed assignments.

Classroom Rules

~ Be respectful to others and their property by keeping hands, feet, objects,  

    and negative comments to yourself

~ Bring all supplies with you when you enter, for you will not leave once you  

    enter.

~ Take care of all business (bathroom, socializing, grooming, etc.) before you

    come to class.

~ Clean up after yourself.

~ The dress code will be followed in the classroom.
