When to Report:
Texas law requires any person believing that a child has been or is being abused or neglected to report it immediately. The more time that elapses between the incident and the report, the more difficult it may be for Child Protective Services to locate the child or family and to gather information needed to protect the child.
Professionals must report suspected abuse within 48 hours. A professional may not delegate to or rely on another person to make the report. (Texas Family Code, Section 261.101)
Your reporting does not have to be reported to the principal or counselor first. You MAY CHOOSE to report to us first, but it is not a requirement. If you feel it is an immediate emergency, call 911.
