Mrs. Grimsley’s Classroom Procedures
(please read this carefully to avoid misunderstandings)
-
Students are allowed and encouraged to correct any failing work for up to a 70. For full credit, the paper must have a parent signature and all the questions must be correct. Partial credit will be given for correct answers, however, the final grade will still be below 70, but any little bit helps! All corrected work is due by the Friday of the week it is assigned.
-
Students will have time to work on their assignments during class and any free time they have. Any unfinished work will be sent home for homework. If a student comes to class without their homework, it is an automatic zero and they will miss all of recess to work on the assignment. It will then be treated as a failing paper and can be turned in the next day for up to a 70.
- Attendance and being on time are very important in the success of any student. They don’t only miss work when they are not in class. They miss teacher instruction and hearing other students ask questions. These are very important for a child to learn. Please help me help your child learn by keeping absences and tardies to a minimum. Also, please be sure to read the student handbook as there are changes to our tardy policy.
- I am a very flexible person, so if I see that something is not working with this particular group of kids, I will try other things. I will keep you updated and let you know what is going on in our class. Feel free to contact me anytime with any questions.
- PLEASE check my website, assignment calendars for each subject are updated regularly and you can see what your child is doing at school. Upcoming events are also posted on my website. The more interest you show, the harder they work!
Friendly Reminders
- PLEASE make sure to check your child’s binder every night. They have a planner in their binder where their reading log will be recorded, any parent/teacher communication will be recorded and where you may find their discipline marks for the day. This needs to be signed or initialed EVERY night. There is a folder for homework that needs to be checked every night. Every Monday, a grade sheet with a running average will be sent home for each subject along with graded work. This is for a grade please make sure the grade sheet is signed and returned on Tuesday for full credit, ten points will be deducted each day after, if I do not receive the signed grade sheet by Friday, it is a zero and cannot be corrected. Please keep the graded work at home.
- If you need to contact me, please write a note in the planner, call the school, or e-mail me at kgrimsley@godleyisd.net E-mail works best for me, but I definitely welcome your phone calls or notes.
I have extremely high expectations of your child, which they will know. I will not give them anything I feel they cannot successfully complete. Please encourage your child to do their best!!! I think the higher we set the bar the more they will achieve, so we need to challenge them. It is my goal this year to teach your child, but also to help make them a more responsible person. Sometimes learning to be responsible can be a long process, but we’ll get there. I am very excited to start school and I am looking forward to a wonderful year! I know this is a lot of information, but I want you to be as informed as possible.
