"When you are doing what you are doing, who are you being? Are you being impatient and bored, or are you being world famous? You are going to act differently if you are being world famous."
Stephen C. Lundin Fish!
I moved to Texas from California in 2002. I am enjoying Texas, but I miss my family, the ocean and the mountains. I started teaching 4th grade in 1973; that means my first students are in their 40's now. (Man, I'm really old!) I earned my B. A. at California State University, Northridge CSUN, my master of arts degree at Azusa Pacific University and my PhD at UCLA (go Bruins!).
I love teaching, but I have a life outside of school. I love to read, travel and SCUBA dive.
What to expect this year:
This year is very different! In the past resource students took an alternate test at their ability level. This year Texas is requiring all students to take the TAKS on their grade level. Also, this is the big year for 8th graders. From this year forward, 8th grade students must pass the TAKS in order to be promoted to 9th grade. Students may retake the test if they do not pass initially. There is still some discussion about what this means for special education students.
As in the past the only supplies I require are a pencil for school and a calculator for at-home use. When I say pencil I mean, a no-kidding, grind it up in a pencil sharpener, wooden, pencil. Erasable ink? NO! Mechanical pencil? NO! Just a plain wooden pencil.
