Welcome to Godley High School UIL Academics
Congratulations to Myles Irvin who competed in the National Forensic League LBJ District Tournament February 28 th-March1st at Richardson High School and was named one of three national finalists to move on to compete in the National Tournament to be held in Las Vegas, NV June 15 th-19 th in U.S. Extemporaneous Speaking. U.S. Extemp is where a contestant draws three questions on a domestic topic, selects one, then has 30 minutes to prepare an answer to the question. The contestant utilizes a set of files that he or she has built as a resource for answering the question. Only published materials may be used as resources (books, magazines, newspaper, and on-line resources). At the completion of the 30 minute preparation time, the student will speak on the topic for 7 minutes.
Congratulations to Myles Irvin and Amber Freels who competed in the UIL State Cross-examination Debate tournament held March 10 th &11 th at UT Austin where they won 7 rounds that earned them the final round where they were defeated by Blanco HS. They ended up with 2 nd place and a silver medal for conference 2A and their names in the UIL history books. There were 64 teams (128 speakers) for conference 2A. Myles was awarded the Golden Gavel for being top speaker in conference 2A out of the 128 speakers. Also competing in the tournament from Godley HS were Preston Herr & James Scott.
